Where site conditions warrant, contamination management can provide landowners with a practical and cost-effective alternative to full remediation. A well-prepared management plan can also support specific project activities where low-level contamination may be encountered such as during early development works or the handling and stockpiling of materials.

Under Queensland legislation, it is a regulatory requirement to assess alternatives to landfill disposal before applying for a disposal permit. These alternatives may include remediation, reuse or recycling of waste materials. However, such options are often only marginally effective when dealing with non-biodegradable contaminants at operating commercial sites.
An alternative strategy - and one recognised under Queensland legislation is to manage contamination in situ within your property.
Contamination management is one of our core areas of expertise.
We prepare practical, fit-for-purpose Site Management Plans tailored to your project needs. These plans may be:

-
Voluntary, where there is no direct regulatory involvement; or
-
Development-driven, where contamination management is required as a condition of development approval to ensure the land is suitable for its intended use. In these cases, regulatory review and approval are required.
Our approach ensures compliance, practicality and clarity - helping you move forward with confidence while meeting your legal obligations.
